How It Compares

Narrow ruled paper fits more lines per page than college ruled (9/32 inch) or wide ruled. It is rarely used before high school and is best suited for students who write in small, compact letters or who need maximum page density for dense notes.

Printing Tip

For the most accurate line spacing, print at 100% scale. If printing double-sided, check your printer's duplex settings to ensure the lines align on both sides.

Frequently Asked Questions

Music staff paper (also called manuscript paper or notation paper) consists of groups of five parallel horizontal lines called staves. Notes, rests, clefs, time signatures, and all other music notation are written on and between these lines. Our blank staff paper prints 10 complete staves per Letter or A4 page at the professional standard of 2.5mm between staff lines — the same spacing used in commercially published sheet music.

Blank music paper is used by composers writing original music, music students completing theory assignments and ear training dictation exercises, music teachers writing examples on the board or handing out melodic exercises, and instrumentalists and singers who prefer to hand-copy practice repertoire. Many music theory curricula (AP Music Theory, ABRSM, RCM, and university theory courses) require students to write music by hand on staff paper.

Our staff paper fits 10 staves on a standard Letter (8.5×11 in) or A4 page. Each staff has 5 lines spaced 2.5mm apart; staves are separated by a 15mm gap to provide ample space for note stems, ledger lines, dynamics, lyrics, and other annotations. Ten staves is the standard configuration for professional manuscript paper.
